► Artist Statement
My work revolves around the questioning of the societal system we inhabit and the relationships we establish, within that context, with our inner worlds and memories, with one another, and with nature. Characters often find themselves in places of solitude (Ennui), longing (Shadow), discomfort and rupture (Untitled (blue)), and self-questioning (Sustenance).
This visual inquiry is grounded in a continuous sketchbook practice – I carry a notebook everywhere I go, which allows me to record glimpses of life that often evolve into paintings or editioned postcards.
It is also embedded in my own experience navigating work within late-stage capitalism. The drive to sustain an independent art practice and the reality of corporate labour makes me feel like I am always jumping between two different worlds – a tension that directly informs my practice.
In an increasingly automated and detached reality (hello, AI slop), will we ever find our way back to nature, to empathy, to community? Or are we doomed to become indifferent to the rich hues around us?
